Bagel Story Archives
Hello!
When I began writing the bagel stories, I did not illustrate them with a photograph of Wallace. It was not until story #7 that I began including a photo of Wallace that either served as the inspiration for the storyline or I thought his fans would enjoy seeing.
In the beginning I used Google Translate to translate the English into Mandarin Chinese. I learned from Chinese speaking fans of Wa that the translations were not very accurate. Somewhere around #75 or so, I switched to a new translation app and I understand the translations are much better. If you speak Chinese, then you can be the judge…;-)
I have divided the story archives into pages of 25 stories per page. Here are the links to all the pages. When a new story is added, the former story is moved to the archive page.
Over the course of the stories I introduced new characters to help broaden the storylines. The named characters are members of Wallace and bagel’s magical family – animals who can talk and act like humans. Here are the family members you will read about.
Ava – A parakeet who is very smart and pragmatic, Ava showed up one day at the family’s bird feeder. She has a back story but it has not been told yet. She is good friends with Cat and together they use the family laptop to research the internet for whatever other family members want to know about or buy.
Cat – A feline diva with an attitude she showed up in Story #136 and a few stories later she was a recognized member of the family. Cat is a favorite family character among story readers. She tolerates Chu and shows him her claws to keep him in line. Cat’s birthday is in December. She always wants to be a kitty actor and has appeared with Wallace in a short promo clip for a Tineco wet vac where she spills milk out of a bowl that Wallace was eating from. She constantly petitions to be included in drama’s Wallace appears in. Wallace built a catio for her off the back porch and she spends most of her time sleeping and sunning herself in the catio. Cat’s boyfriend is named Mike.
Chu – The next door neighbor’s dog who is a friendly retriever. He slobbers when they play catch with him. He jumps over the fence when he wants to join Wallace’s family on walks.
HeiHua – Beside Wallace, HeiHua is the only other member of the family who exists in real life. Years ago Wallace created a plushie doll that had the face of a cartoon panda. He introduced the plushie to his fans in a concert and it was instantly loved. The panda’s English name is Black Flower, which was also the name of a black dog which appeared in one of Wallace’s early dramas. HeiHua is kind-hearted, innocent, friendly and large. She loves to munch on bamboo shoots, bananas and mangoes. She is a mother-figure in the storylines and her domain is the kitchen. Together with the bagel, she manages the houses that Wallace owns. Story #21 shows HeiHua with Wallace.
Mike – A big black and white tom cat who is rumored to have tattoos under his fur and one of his ears is torn. He lived up the street and fell in love with Cat the first time he laid eyes on her. Cat was coy but Mike won her heart and the two of them are constant companions. Mike’s human family moved away and could not take Mike with them. Mike was invited to live with Wallace’s family where he now shares the catio with Cat.
Turtle – An ancient star traveler like the bagel. His back story has been partially told. He is responsible for tending the family’s garden in the backyard. In the winter time he returns to a nearby pond to be with his ancient friends under the mud.
Wa – This a nickname for Wallace. His English name is Wallace Chung. His given Chinese name is Chung Hon-Leung. He is also known as : Zhong Han Liang, 钟汉良, 小哇, Xiao Wa, 小太陽, and Little Sun. I opted to use “Wa” in the bagel stories because it is short and translates into Chinese as “Wa” as long as a verb follows it in a sentence.
I hope you enjoy reading the bagel stories!
